What the UAE issues
The UAE issues a police clearance under three names depending on where you apply. All three are accepted by IRCC:
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Criminal Clearance Certificate
- Good Conduct Certificate
When IRCC asks for it
You must provide a UAE police certificate when you apply for permanent residence in Canada. You will also be asked for one if you declared a criminal record on an application for an electronic travel authorization, work permit, or study permit.
How the application works
There are three routes:
- Online through the Ministry of Interior portal
- In person at the nearest UAE embassy
- Through a representative in the UAE holding power of attorney, who applies at the police department in your emirate
You only need one emirate
One clearance covers the whole country, regardless of how many emirates you lived in or which one issued your residence visa. Each emirate runs its own criminal investigation department — Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain all issue separately — so most applicants use whichever is fastest rather than the one matching their old address.
Where our part ends
The completed certificate comes back to you. We can send your results directly to a third party with your consent if your application requires it.

Certified Ink Fingerprints can be taken abroad and mailed to our office.
The RCMP advertises a 72-hour turnaround for processing background checks. However, additional time is needed for printing, certifying, packaging, and releasing the results.
Note: If a criminal history is present, processing time is upwards of 120 days.
